It's great to hear Eric Wagner at it again. No longer with doom legends Trouble, Wagner is still kicking ass in Blackfinger. Their self titled release is out now on Church Within Records and can be ordered here http://shop.doom-dealer.de/. 

I love this record. Id say this record has more of a Lid (a band Eric was in after he left Trouble in the 90's) feel to it than Trouble. There's a definite Pink Floydian / Beatles vibe throughout the album. Vocally, one thing that really impresses me about this lp are the dynamics. There's a great mix of heavier rocking tunes with some somber slower runes. Even within the songs themselves there's a simple complexity (what?) about them. One example is the tune "As Long as I'm with You". While its title may make the listener think they are about to hear a happy upbeat track, it's actually a very sad depressing sounding song. The piano, strings and Eric's softer spoken voice really make this a very touching song. One of the best on the record. Another one of my favorites is a heavier tune "Why God?" 

There's so much to dig about one. The riffs have a great catchy swagger about them and Eric's chorus is one you won't forget soon. It will get stuck between your ears and sit there for a long time. But again it's the dynamics of the song that makes it so bad ass. You'll just have to hear it for yourself. From the first to last track there's not a filler on the album. STONE DAGGER – ‘The Siege of Jerusalem’

Stone Dagger...Stone freaking Dagger. 

This is some powerful metal from the one and only Brendan Radigan (Magic Circle/Battle Ruins/Mind Eraser...). This is all his doing. He wrote it it. All of it and it's incredible. With the help of studio musicians (Chris Corry and Justin DeTore of Magic Circle) he's put out an amazing two track demo called The Siege of Jerusalem. If you're a fan of Cirith Ungol, Brocas Helm and Manilla Road (like moi) this is right up your alley. 

Brendan posted a tune on his FB page and it seemed like it shook the earth. The response from everyone was pretty fantastic. The two tunes are The Siege of Jerusalem and Black Clad Rider. The first track, Siege of Jerusalem starts off with a slow riff before Brendan kicks in with his painfully heartfelt lyric "Father I Pray...". So fucking glorious! The song picks up with some tasty leads and Brendan belting out some catchy hooks. I swear Ive listened to this one song nonstop for at least 2 days. Definitely my favorite song of 2013. Black Clad Rider starts a little quicker with some killer riffs and Radigan singing some very up beat lines leading you into the ultra catchy chorus. After a lead by Chris Corry and more great riffs Brendan is back with that amazing chorus to close the song out. This is one hell of a release. Two amazing tunes by an incredibly talented musician.

SOGGY BOB reviews Iron Man - South of the Earth (album review)

Here's something special:  A review of one of my favorite albums by one of my favorite personalities within the world of doom.  SOGGY BOB of the SOGGY BOG OF DOOM podcast reviews Iron Man's 'South of the Earth' record!!!  Only on Paranoid Hitsophrenic ... - LK Ultra

So the latest full length album by Iron Man, "South of the Earth", came out a few month ago on Rise Above and Metal Blade Records. Since then, there have been many fantastic records released. But after checking out these new releases I consistantly find myself popping on this new Iron Man crusher! This is the best signing Rise Above has made in years. There is nothing pretentious about this. What I love about Iron man is that they are what they are and what you expect them to be, fucking doom metal from Maryland done right.

The opening track "South of the Earth" starts this beat down with a pummeling barrage of riffs that render you into a senseless dribbling cabbage. Its goddamn beautiful. One day I hope to see them play this tune live just so I can see the building collapse around me when doom lord Al Morris III breaks into his lead and Screamng Mad Dee busts out his big bad ass banshee-on-crank like scream. Shit can break when he does that. 

My personal favorite tracks on this release are "Whore in Confesssion","Hail to the Haze", "IISOEO (The Day of the Beast)", "Half-Face / Thy Brother's Keeper (Dunwich Pt. 2)" and the aforementioned "South of the Earth". But honestly there's no weak track on the album. The tasty drums of Mot Waldmann and perfect sounding bass of Louis Strachan drive this album like John Riggins running through a pop warner team. There's no one left standing. 

Overall this album is great dynamic heavy album. Heavy riffs, devastating rhythm section and an elite vocalist who writes some mighty fine lyrics are a recipe for album of the year to me.
